S

t Lukes Art Space.

In mid-2009 adaptations were made to one of the long walls in St Luke's to allow for the hanging of art exhibitions.
The idea is that this will provide a space for Local artists to display their work, there being no designated art gallery on the Peninsula, and many fine local artists.  We plan to have three major exhibitions a year, each accompanied by an opening event, involving contributions from different sectors of the community.  Pqaintings hang for about three months, and a small proportion of the revenue from any sales goes to church funds and the remainder to the artist concerned.

Our inaugural exhibition "Where Earth Meets Sky" was opened by Mayor Chris Holstein on October 3, and the opening event included a Welcome to Country by local Aboriginal elder Kevin (Gabbi) Duncan and his group of young dancers.  We also had a presentation from Calga Springs Wildlife Park - the snakes were much appreciated by the children but the adults were not so sure! - and a performance by the Peninsula Choir.

We have three exhibitions planned for 2010.

"Shallow Edges, Deep Centre" - which  will open on February 13th at 3 pm.

'"Young at Art" - which will feature the work of young artists from Peninsula schools, and will open on 26th June at 3.00pm.

"Heavens Alive" - which will look at the sky and cosmos, and will open on October 2 at 3 pm.

To enquire about any of our exhibitions call the Parish Office on 43441347 and ask to be put in contact with Susie O'Donnell.
